AHMEDABAD: Here is a dream come true for parents — very soon they will be able to chart their child’s academic and emotional progress online. Complete with his behavioural pattern during his stay at school.
A report card seems an age-old solution next to this digital answer to all that parents would want to know. It is ‘i-School’, an educational software which will soon allow teachers, management, parents and even students to monitor academic and co-curricular performance of students and their behaviour.
The software, ‘i-School’ has been developed by CEON Solutions, an incubatee at the Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship (CIIE) of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A).

A total of 13 schools in six states have switched to i-School.
CEON Solutions was set up in March 2004, after it won the gold medal in Anveshan II, which is the nationwide business plan contest at IIM-A. CEON Solutions was an innovation of three students of Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management, Gwalior.
"Datamining tools is the newest feature of this software. This module stores and analyses data of each and every student. The data is not only academic but also about the student’s behaviour, discipline, conduct, health, reading habits and class participation," said Abhay Panjiyar, head CEON Solutions.
St Kabir School in Ahmedabad recently installed the datamining software. Its trustee, Colonel Vinod Kumar said, "We see the biggest use of the module in the beginning of every academic year, when a new teacher takes over the class. The modules will provide a history of the whole class, its bright students, areas that need special attention and students who need extra attention. This will also help in identifying the students and parents who need counselling."

When the software was introduced a year ago, it had modules which recorded the attendance of students and teachers, automatic time table, proxy teacher allotment, SMS to parents and results.
The software also offers digital solutions for maintaining daily diary, lesson plans, question bank, i-workbook and Over All Development Report. "The datamining will work like this: on a weekly or monthly basis, the class teachers will write down remarks for individual students. This software will give them a ready record," Panjiyar said.
He added, "The software also records the data for four consecutive years, which gives the teachers and management an over all trend of the performance and behaviour of a student."
